At Albina Head Start, we are excited to introduce Sight Word Readers to help children build early reading skills and develop a love for books and reading.
About
Sight words are common words that children will often see and use when reading. Learning to quickly recognize these words helps children become more confident readers and allows them to focus on understanding and enjoying the stories they read.
Our teachers will introduce the Sight Word Readers during classroom activities and provide children with opportunities to practice reading familiar words in meaningful and fun ways.
Children will listen to books, look at pictures, notice words, and practice recognizing sight words as they read with their teachers and friends.
How Families are Involved
Families play an important role in supporting children's early literacy development. You can help by:

Reading together every day, even for just a few minutes.

Pointing out familiar words when you see them in books or around your home.

Encouraging your child to talk about the pictures and books.

Practicing sight word activities in a fun way.

Praising your child's effort and progress.

Reading favorite books again and again—repetition helps children become familiar with words and stories.
Most importantly, keep reading fun! Children learn best when they feel successful, encouraged, and excited about learning. We look forward to partnering with families as we help children build the early reading skills they need for kindergarten and beyond.
